If you are a football fan, you surely know that the UEFA European Championship, commonly known as Euro, is one of the most prestigious competitions for national teams. How you already noticed, the championship will start later due to the COVID-19, and this changes everything.
Because the intention was making a huge event to celebrated 2 things in 2020: the 60 years since the first tournament and that for the second time in the history of this competition, the championship will receive 24 teams.
When will the championship start?
Now, the championship will take place between June and July. The official date for the start is June 11. We will see games in 12 different nations. Yes, you read well! The host will be Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Romania, Scotland, Spain, Azerbaijan, Germany, Italy, Russia, and England.
This is unusual but did you know why was expanded the host of the European Championship? Well, this decision takes us back to 2012. The Executive Committee found a very interesting and creative way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tournament.
They don’t want to have a “party” in one country if it is not in all Europe. At that moment, the idea was exited because it is not just about having many hosts if not that the economic pressure is not in only one country so, this is great. But now, after the pandemic, maybe this doesn’t sound as much attractive as before.
Which are the Euro teams?
As we already mentioned, this competition will have 24 teams competing by the trophy. What is not change is the format, it keeps the same as in 2016: 6 groups – 4 teams each one.
The teams already qualified for the Euro (after the stage celebrated from March to November 2019) are France, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Austria, Finland, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Denmark, England, and Wales.

We will see the audience at the stadium?
We don’t know that yet, but the UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, said that they are considering having public. At the moment, they are making plans to make this happen. At the moment some competitions like the German Bundesliga receive public at the stadium but just a minimum of people. So, we can expect the same for this championship or even more if all this situation with COVId-19 gets better.
