History at UEFA Euro

Germany’s national team is one of the best football teams in the world and always a candidate. For this edition, they obtained the ticket after taking the first place with a six-point advantage over the second place. The team won its fourth Wold Cup in 2014, and also won the third Eurocup in 1996. From that year, only played the final in 2008, and didn’t pass from the 2012 and 2016 semi-finals. After that winning period, we know that Germany is not as fierce as France or even England, but it is certainly a very strong squad. Big stars such as Thomas Müller and Jérôme Boateng won’t be part of the team anymore as the coach is creating a younger squad, but still, Toni Kross is leading them.

Ones to watch

Manuel Neuer:

He is of the best German goalkeepers in all times and current keeper from Bayern Munich. After a lower performance, he had to struggle with Ter Stegen (Barcelona) to be the main goalkeeper in the national team and succeeded. Neuer is also the captain of the team after a long track record and vast experience in both national and international football games.

Timo Werner:

Undoubtedly, one of the keys of Germany’s success in the recent years. Werner is an excellent striker and he moved from RB Leipzig to Chelsea in July 2020. He scored 34 goals in 48 games played in the youth national teams and he is currently part of the national team after 33 caps and 13 goals scored so far.

Toni Kroos:

This man doesn’t need a presentation and it is widely known after a long career in the Spanish league team, Real Madrid. He is the main player and center midfielder in Germany although he can also play as defensive midfielder. In the last Euro 2016, he was voted to the team of the tournament, and he currently has a cap of 100 matches played with the German national team, and a total of 17 goals scored during this cap.
