History at UEFA Euro

Turkey has participated in four Euro Championships between 1996 and 2016. Their best performance was in
2008 when they reached the semifinals. Their participation in this Championship has not been the best; in
the 1996 and 2016 editions, they only passed the group stage; in the UEFA Euro 2000, they reached the
quarterfinals. Even though they have had irregularities on their qualification for this tournament, they
showed a solid defense that impressed, scoring in every match, and not accumulating any losses,
only a minimum draw against France.

Ones to watch

Cenk Tosun:

The Everton FC forward has an amazing goals stadistics in the qualifiers for this tournament. He scored 5 goals in 6 games and, although he is not the faster forward, he works hard and he is very precise. In addition, he gets on very well with the coach, Şenol Güneş, because he managed him when Tosun was at Beşiktaş.
With the dexterity he has shown to conceal goals, it is clear that he is a careful player for the other teams in Group A.

Merih Demiral:

The young man to keep an eye on is Demiral, the Juventus central defender of Italian Serie A who is just 22 years old. After the injury he suffered in January this year, it was thought that he was going to miss the Euro Championship but the pandemic gave him another chance to shine in the competition. Tuquía’s defense was excellent in qualifying, and this young man has managed to attract attention.

Enes Ünal:

Another young talent of the national team is Ünal, he is 23 years old and plays as a forward for Getafe FC. His record with the Turkish national team since the U-17s speaks highly of his potential. In the 2013/2014 season, he played 9 games and scored 8 goals; in 2014/2015, while playing with the under-19, he played 3 games and scored 4 goals, this year in the UEFA Euro Championship qualifiers he participated in only 1 match and scored 2 goals.
For all this, Ünal is a promise for this team that has been strengthened with young players at the offensive level and has been reinforced at the defensive level.
