History at UEFA Euro

Hungary had a fearless team in the past, back to the start of this prestigious tournament. The Hungarian national team achieved a couple of semi-finals in 1964 and 1972. Also, they finished second in the World Cup of 1938 and 1954 and won gold medals in several Olympic Games. They had a great era and also a historic player such as Puskás who doesn’t need a presentation. After this golden era, they couldn’t participate in the next 10 editions of the Euro, until they came back in 2016 and reached the round of 16. Now, for the second consecutive time, Hungary is back to the Euro to try to recover what they missed in the last 40 years.

Ones to watch

Dominik Szoboszlai:

At only 20 years old, Dominik sounds like a good promise of this new generation of football players, not only for Hungary but worldwide. He is currently playing in the German Bundesliga for Red Bull Salzburg since 2018. He is a midfielder with great attacking capacities, but he is also known for being an excellent score through free kicks. With the national team, he only has 12 appearances and three goals, but those goals helped Hungary to be part of this Euro edition.

Nemanja Nikolic:

Born in Serbia, Nikolic joined the Hungary national team after his mother’s nationality. He is the main striker of the national team and the current captain as well thanks to his great experience. Nikolic has a long career in the Hungarian local league as well with around 250 goals, including 7 of them with the national team.

Péter Gulácsi:

He is the current goalkeeper of the national team, fighting for this position since 2014. His experience as a goalkeeper has been tested for many years in teams such as Liverpool, Hull city, Red Bull Salzburg, and Red Bull Leipzig, among others. He also participated in the Champions league with the local team and was the hero in the FIFA U20 World Cup after saving three penalties in the fight for third place.
