History at UEFA Euro

This is a team of surprises. Other squads used to feel confidence when they had to face Croatia but that changed after their third place in the 1998 World Cup. More recently, the team got the second place in the last 2018 World Cup after a fantastic performance. Regarding the Euro, this is a new team, with only 5 of 6 possible participations and their best results achieved were a couple of quarter-finals. For this 2020/21 edition, Croatia will have a big challenge as some of the great players they had in the last World Cup are already retired. Zlatko Dalic will guide them again and surely the Croatian team will be a hard nut to crack.

Ones to watch

Luka Modric:

Aged 35 years old, he is still one of the best middle fielders nowadays. He is currently playing with the Spanish Real Madrid league team since 2012 and he is one of the few players in the world who won three consecutive Champion League trophies. Luka also won a Ballon d’Or against living legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. As captain of the Croatia national team, he has played 130 games in 14 years and he will probably beat the most caps for a Croatian player in this tournament.

Ivan Perišić:

He was a fundamental piece for Croatia in the 2018 World Cup. Now, the Internationale’s striker will look for a good performance with the national team as well. Perišić has good versatility and he can play as winger, second striker, and even as an attacking midfielder. Lastly, he scored a goal in the 2018 World Cup final, so pressure is something that he can handled really well.

Bruno Petković:

At 26 years old, he is part of the new generation of players that the Croatian national team needs desperately. Petković plays as a striker and he joined the national team in 2019. With only 12 appearances, his 6 goals back up his talent, finishing as the top goal scorer of his group in this Euro qualifiers.
